Simon Chadwick plays historical Scottish and Irish harp music. This will be his third year of playing at the High Mill, and this year he will present a programme of “ceol mor” on the big harp – mesmeric, meditative extended compositions taken from the Scottish bagpipe tradition. He has spent many years researching in the old music books held in Dundee City library’s Wighton Collection, and he plays these old tunes on archaeological reproductions of the ancient harps preserved in the museums.

Simon has played his replica of the medieval “Queen Mary” harp for the BBC’s programme about the National Museum in Edinburgh, for events at the British Museum in London, and to accompany Gaelic singer Gillebride MacMillan (of Outlander fame) in re-constructions of medieval bardic praise poetry for the chiefs of Clan Donald on the Isle of Skye. He teaches historical harp technique every year at the Early Irish harp summer school in Kilkenny, and worldwide using online video.
